CAIRO – 22 December 2017: Ajax announced on Thursday that they have sacked their manager, Marcel Keizer, and his assistants, Dennis Bergkamp and Hennie Spijkerman.

The club took the decision one day after the club got eliminated from the Dutch Cup, losing to Twente Enschede on penalties.

“The club management does not have the requisite confidence that our ambitions will be realized under them," Ajax’s statement read on Thursday.

Keizer signed a two-year contract to manage the club in June, after he spent a year managing the club’s youth team, but he failed to lead the club to success.

Ajax General Director Edwin Van Der Sar spoke after the decision, saying, “We do not have the confidence that we will reach the levels we seek in the manner in which we have been proceeding."

Ajax had a horrible run in the European competitions this season. They lost to France’s Nice in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. They also lost to Norway’s Rosenberg in the UEFA Europa League play-off round.

Ajax is placed second in the Dutch League table with 38 points, winning 12 games and losing three games, while two games ended with a draw. They are five points behind the leaders, PSV Eindhoven.
