CAIRO – 20 December 2017: Al-Ahly defeated Smouha 2-1 on Wednesday in the Egyptian League, thanks to a goal from al-Ahly substitute Eslam Mohareb, who scored the team’s winning goal against his former club.

Al-Ahly started the game with a strong attacking line consisting of Ahmed El Sheikh, Moamen Zakaria, Junior Ajayi and Abdallah El Said. Al-Ahly players got many chances to score through Zakaria and Sheikh, but Smouha’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Abo Gabal, managed to save the team until Al-Ahly’s first goal.

Al-Ahly managed to end the first half 1-0 after Abdallah El Said scored the team’s goal three minutes before half-time through a penalty.

In the second half, Smouha equalized the score after five minutes through a stunning header from their Burkinabe striker, Banou Diawara.

Al-Ahly manager Hossam El Badry made the team’s first substitute in the game when he replaced Bassem Ali with Eslam Mohareb, who scored his team’s winning goal five minutes after entering the field.

Smouha failed to equalize the score in the remaining minutes, and the game ended 2-1.

Though they have two postponed games, al-Ahly are now at 29 points, only 2 points behind the leaders, Ismaily.
