FILE: Al Jazira first basketball team
CAIRO – 2 December 2017: Al Jazira’s first team won the Basketball Championship of the Cairo Area League, after beating Al Ahly 59-69 in the final.
Al Gaish ranked second and Egypt Insurance third, while Al-Ahly came in fourth place and the Telecom Egypt (TE) team ranked last in the tournament standing.
Fathi Shehata, head of the Cairo region, handed the trophy to Sherif Geneidy, Al Jazira's captain.
According to Mohamed Fathi, a Member of the Board of the governing body of the Basketball Association, the federation has set up a regional league to activate clubs before the start of the youth league.
Youth League was postponed because of the preparations of the first team for the Africa World Cup qualifiers.
The Egyptian Basketball Team finished the first stage for qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in China.
The final stage of the third group qualifiers will be held in Egypt between June 29 and July 1, 2018.
