CAIRO – 27 November 2017: AC Milan have announced the dismissal of coach Vincenzo Montella on Monday morning after the deterioration of the team's results in Serie A.

The club management added that he would be replaced by their fiery former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, wishing him good luck.

“We are very grateful to coach Montella and his team for the work he has done so far, and for their commitment and professionalism,” Milan said in a statement.

The club will hold a press conference on Tuesday to officially announce the new coach and present him to the media.

Milan drew 0-0 at Torino on Sunday night in the 14th round of the Serie A, finishing seventh with 18 points behind leaders Napoli.

Montella had been in charge since the start of last season when he led Milan, 18-times Italian champions, to sixth place in the standings.

Gattuso, 39, was known as one of Italy's toughest defensive midfielders in his playing days.
