CAIRO – 23 November 2017 : Argentinean club Lanus is searching for their first Copa Libertadores title when they face Brazil’s Gremio in the Copa Libertadores final first leg on Thursday at Estadio Olimpico Monumental de Porto Alegre in Brazil.

Lanus qualified to the final after defeating three-time champions River Plate, while Gremio eliminated Ecuador’s Barcelona to reach the final.

Lanus fans put all their hopes on their striker, Jose Sand, who scored eight goals in the tournament.

Lanus hopes to be the ninth Argentinean club to win the title, as Independiente, Boca Juniors, Estudiantes, River Plate, Racing, Argentinos Juniors, Velez Sarsfield and San Lorenzo have all won the title before.

Gremio plays the fifth final in their history. They won the title in 1983 and 1995, while they lost it in 1984 and 2007.

Gremio depends on a massive attacking line consisting of Ramiro Benetti, Luiz Fernando, Cícero Santos and Luan Vieira to break Lanus’ strong defense.

The second leg is scheduled to be played in Argentina on November 29.
