CAIRO –20 November 2017: Dario Benedetto ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee and will be six to eight months away from the pitch.

“I do not know what happened,” Benedetto told the media. “I get a strange feeling when I realize what I have been through.”

“It is the first injury I have of this type, but I will continue to work hard,” he added.

Then he said, “The World Cup is the thing I care about the least now; all I think about is to return as soon as possible.”

The loss of Benedetto had a big impact on Boca, especially after they had lost their captain, the skilled Fernando Gago, a little more than a month ago due to a knee injury for which he had to undergo surgery.

Benedetto became the key striker for coach Jorge Sampaoli and participated in four matches.

The injury could open the door for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuaín, who has not played for Argentina since June.
