CAIRO – 15 November 2017: Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish Football League, confirmed that FIFA has given its approval for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to be implemented next season in Spanish football.

Tebas revealed the news in a media conference, where he also announced that it will be tested first in the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) this season.

The management was done through meetings in Zurich, and finally the International Board (IFAB) informed the federation that it is authorized to use the technological system of arbitration aid, so the Spanish Cup was available to prove it.

"There is no time to install the entire system in 15 days. We do not have courses or have decided who will manage; it's impossible," Tebas said.

So things will surely apply in the next round of the Cup, for which there is still no stipulated date.

The VAR is already used in Germany, Italy, France and Portugal. However, some errors in the application of the system have led to criticism regarding its management.
