CAIRO – 3 November 2017: Egypt has been knocked out of the 2017 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in Dubai after losing to Portugal.

Following both sides beating the UAE and losing to Brazil, they knew a win would propel them into the semi-finals to meet either Iran or Russia.

Portugal got off to a flying start and found themselves up 5-1 within the first 12 minutes.
In the second phase of the match, Egypt was able to find the back of the net, managing to bring the game to a 6-6 tie.

It was a true team effort, with five different players scoring the six goals; however, they ending up losing in the dramatic penalty shootout.

The result means that Egypt is knocked out of the tournament, while Portugal will face either Iran or Russia in the semi-finals, depending on the results in their group.
Egypt’s best placing in the competition was their fourth place finish in the 2015.
