CAIRO – 1 November 2017: President of Zamalek SC, Moratada Mansour, confirmed that Zamalek's handball team will not participate in the 2018 IHF Super Globe competition hosted by Qatar if they officially qualify for it.

Zamalek qualified for the African Super Cup after winning the African Club Championship in the Tunisian city of Hammamet, and will face their traditional rival, Al-Ahly, in Egypt in April 2018. The winner of this match will qualify for the 2018 IHF Super Globe in Qatar.

Murtada Mansour said in a statement to Egypt Today that it is impossible for Zamalek's handball team to travel to Qatar and participate in the Super Globe; that will not happen whatever the consequences might be as it is a political decision in the first place, taken in light of the current relationship between the Egyptian government and Qatar.

“Zamalek will fight to beat Al-Ahly in the African Super Cup match and after qualifying for the Super Globe, the white team will not travel as long as the tournament is held in Qatar, and this is a final decision; irreversible,” Mansour added.

Voices in Zamalek called to submit an official request to transfer the tournament from Qatar because of the tense relations with Doha at the moment, which will be determined after the meeting of the Super African Cup.
