CAIRO –11 October 2017: Sky Sports revealed that Chilean Arturo Vidal has decided to retire from international duty.

Vidal failed to lead Chile to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a 3-0 loss to Brazil in the last round of the South America qualifiers.

Vidal said his decision comes with his "soul crushed" after he missed Chile's final shot at qualification on Tuesday through suspension.

"Thank you lads, for everything, for all these years together... for teaching me and for showing a country that with effort and work anything is possible in life," Vidal wrote in Spanish on Twitter.

Chile finished in sixth place to fail to qualify for the playoffs.

Vidal, 30, has made 93 Apps for Chile, scoring 23 goals between 2007 and 2017.

This is the 12th time that Chile has failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Vidal won Copa America in 2015 and 2016 with Chile, and reached the 2017 Confederations Cup final before losing to Germany.
