CAIRO – 2 October 2017: Palestinian football player and Israeli citizen Maamon Qashoa shared a photo of him wearing the Israeli national team shirt on his Instagram account after he was chosen to represent Israel in the U-19 national team.

Qashoa, 19, commented on his photo, saying, “My success comes only through God.”

Qashoa was born in Tira, Israel and plays for the Israeli club Hapoel Haifa, after he failed to join European giants Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine and Espanyol in Spain.

Qashoa is not the first Arab player to represent the Israeli national team. Walid Bedir represented Israel in more than 70 games, Abbas Suan played 12 games for Israel and Najwan Ghrayib played in 18 games. More than 20 other Arab players, including Zahi Armeli, who plays for Maccabi Haifa, play for Israeli teams.
