CAIRO – 25 September 2017: The Egyptian Football Association, headed by Hany Abu Reida, refused to host the African Nations Championship (ANC) scheduled for January 2018 after CAF withdrew the tournament from Kenya.

EFA officials refused CAF’s request to host the championship after it was revoked from Kenya for lack of organization. CAF has given African nations 10 days to apply to host the championship, Super Kora reported.

A member of the board of EFA said that Egypt’s participation in the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifiers was one of the reasons they rejected to host the competition. If Egypt would have to host the 2018 ANC, it would have to stop the Premier League for a month, which would create a crisis for the league and players looking to prove themselves worthy of playing in the national team.

The domestic national has also not qualified to the ANC, after it lost 4-1 to Morocco in the championship’s qualifier.
