CAIRO – 21 September 2017: FIFA announced on Wednesday that an investigation into Chelsea's contract with minor players has been launched, confirming information published in The Times.

“We confirm that the investigation is underway on Chelsea, and we cannot give any details about the investigation,” the FIFA spokesman said.

The British newspaper reported earlier on Wednesday that Chelsea was the target of an investigation into the “possible violations of the rules of transfer relating to young foreign players,” noting that the London club confirmed “respect for all rules of FIFA.”

According to the newspaper, what Chelsea did is “less dangerous” than what Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid did.

FIFA banned the Spanish clubs in January 2016 after investigating the disciplinary committee for involving underage players in competitions.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has reduced the penalty for Real Madrid, while Atletico has been banned from the transfer window until January 2018.
