CAIRO – 20 September 2017 : German club Kaiserslautern, who runs in the German second division, announced on Sunday that German manager Norbert Meier is no longer the coach of the club. The decision was not a good present from the club to their manager on his birthday.

“We are reacting with this decision, which is not easy for us, to the continuing sporting situation," Kaiserslautern sports director Boris Notzon told press on Wednesday.

Meier, who celebrates his 59th birthday on Wednesday, got sacked after the club’s poor results in the first seven games in the league. They lost five games and ended two games with a draw, putting them in the bottom of the German second division table with two points.

Meier is a former German player who spent most of his career at Werder Bremen in the 1980s. He started coaching in 1997 and has since managed many German big clubs, like Borussia Mönchengladbach, MSV Duisburg, Dynamo Dresden, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Arminia Bielefeld and Darmstadt 98.

Former Egyptian player Hany Ramzy wore Kaiserslautern’s jersey from 1998 to 2005 when they were playing in the German top division.
