CAIRO – 16 September 2017 : Atletico Madrid fans will experience their first home game at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid when they host Malaga at the Spanish League. The team recently left their historic castle, Vicente Calderon.

“The fans will definitely notice that the outside of the stadium needs some improvements but it is normal since it is new, when they step inside the Wanda Metropolitano, they will see how impressive it is,” Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone told the press on Friday.

“His Majesty King Felipe VI will preside over the inauguration of the Wanda Metropolitano this Saturday, the 16th of September at 20:45,” Atletico Madrid said in a statement said on Friday.

Atletico Madrid has been playing away games since the start of the season as the stadium wasn’t ready to host games. Atletico played three La Liga games and one Champions League game away from home.

Simeone is happy to play at Wanda Metropolitano. “The important thing is that we are going to play at home,” he said. “It is great to be at home in front of our fans which is what we need and it is important,"

Atletico Madrid used their old stadium, Vicente Calderon to play home games from 1966 until 2016.
