CAIRO - 7 September 2017: South African youngster, Phakamani Mahlambi undergoes medical check-up in Cairo on Thursday before signing his contract to join Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly.

Mahlambi, 19, played for the South African club Bidvest Wits the last two years and he had a three-week trial in August with Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes; but the youngster failed to convince the Portuguese club to sign him.

Reports claimed that the signing will cost Al-Ahly about $1.3 million to sign the player for four years; Al-Ahly has to include the South African winger into their squad on Thursday as it is the transfer deadline in Egypt.

Mahlambi will become the first South African to play for the record eight-time champions of the CAF Champions League, as a continued cooperation with Bidvest Wits after Al-Ahly loaned Amr Gamal to the South African Club on August.

Al-Ahly prepares to face their Tunisian counterparts, Esperance, on September 16 at CAF Champions League quarter finals in Alexandria, the second leg will be played in Tunisia on September 23.
