CAIRO – 1 September 2017: The plane that was carrying the national team back to Egypt from Uganda reportedly faced serious turbulence, prompting its passengers to panic.

According to the media personnel on board the flight accompanying the national team delegation, the plane went through severe air turbulence for 20 minutes, leaving people on board in panic.

Sources at Borg al-Arab airport announced that the route the air carrier travelled through was an exceptional route, as the regular Uganda-bound flights were not available, which means that the prospects of the plane encountering turbulence is high.

The airport emergency operations center didn’t receive any notification from the pilot or his co-pilot that something serious was going, which means that the plane was in no real danger.

The football world has recently witnessed a devastating horrible air crash accident. Back in November 2016, Brazilian club Chapecoense’s first football team was totally wiped out by a plane crash while en route to Colombia.

Egypt lost 1-0 to Uganda on Thursday in their 2018 World Cup qualifiers group stage; both teams are playing the second leg on Tuesday at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
