CAIRO – 25 August 2017: The Egyptian U-23 Volleyball team came fifth place on August 25 in the U-23 Volleyball World Cup, held in Egypt from August 18-25.

The Pharaohs managed to secure fifth place after sealing a precious 4-0 victory against Japan in the deciding match between the fifth and sixth position.

This achievement can be seen as the second greatest achievement in Egypt’s volleyball history after the U-19 Egyptian team came in fourth place in the 2001 World Cup that was also held in Egypt.

The following players were selected by Egypt’s coach Marcos Miranda to represent the Egyptian team in the Volleyball World Cup: Ahmed Saber ‘Fatouta’, Ahmed al-Ashry, Hisham Yusry, Omar Saleh, Mohamed Ramadan, Mohamed Mohsen, Ahmed Osama, Abdul Rahman Saudi, Abu al-Said al-Sayed, Ahmed Diaa, Saad Mohsen and Ahmad Galal.

Egypt has participated in the competition since its creation in 2013. The team participated in the two former editions in Brazil and UAE, achieving 9th place in both.

Brazil won the first competition in 2013, beating Serbia in the final, while Russia won the second edition, beating Turkey in the final.
