CAIRO –14 August 2017: Basel defeated FC Wettswil Bonstetten 2-0 in the first leg of the Swiss Cup on Sunday, August 13.

Egyptian defender Omar Gaber participated in the 90 minutes of the game, his first official appearance with Basel this season. He missed participating in four matches in the Swiss League competition.

Gaber played as a left back, despite usually playing as a right back or midfielder. Omar played a good match and assisted the second goal for Basel.

Omar Gaber received many offers from various European clubs wishing to sign him during the current summer transfer period, the most important being from Brighton FC and Valencia CF.

FC Basel’s administration rejected all offers made for the Egyptian star, despite the player not having participated in the matches, due to the head coach’s conviction of Omar’s capabilities.
