CAIRO – 9 August 2017: One of the finest tennis players in the world today, Roger Federer, celebrated his 36th birthday on August 8. Egypt Today decided to do a brief review of his prosperous career so far.

Roger Federer is one of the best and most popular tennis players in the world. He is one of seven players to have won the big four tennis tournaments (Grand Slam) in their career.

Federer was born on August 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. He spent his childhood at the boarders between France and Germany, so he was able to speak in the two languages (French and German) since his youth, while learning English at the same time. He began to play tennis from an early period of his life.

The Federer family played tennis as a hobby, but the only one who showed talent was Roger. As a result, he focused on playing tennis at the age of 11. He was one of the three best young players in Switzerland. When he was 14 years old, he started joining tournaments and training to be a professional player.

In 1998, he won the Junior Wimbledon title and the under-18 category at the prestigious Orange Bowl, making anyone predict that he will have a great future.

His start as a professional player wasn’t good. He lost match after match, but in 2001, he achieved his first title in the Hopman Cup, alongside Martina Hingis. Moreover, in the same year, he achieved his first ATP Tournament victory and defeated Julien Boutter in the final of the Milan Indoor.

In 2002, Federer made an awesome performance that made him no. 6 in the ATP Champions Race. He achieved a great victory by qualifying to the final in nine tournaments and winning seven out of them. The Swiss man ended this year as no. 2 in the ATP Champions Race.

Federer continued gaining trophies, achieving three Australian Open titles, two Wimbledon titles and a US Open title. For the first time in his career, Federer became no. 1 in the 2004 ATP rankings.

Roger remained in first place from 2004 through 2008, which was the longest period to ever keep first place. He achieved a surplus of titles and broke many world records in this period. In 2008, Federer captured one Grand Slam, and due to his injury, he ended the year as the world’s no. 2. He returned in 2009 and won Wimbledon and the French Open. “El Maestro” Federer became the first player in the history of the sport to achieve 15 titles in Grand Slam tournaments.

He has been hunting trophies since 2013. That year he did not win any titles, but he returned in 2014 and gained a few titles, but didn’t win any Grand Slam tournaments.
In 2015, he reached 11 finals, and despite winning six trophies, he ended the year as no. 3. The year 2016 was bad for Roger because he was suffering from a knee and back injury. It was the first time that Federer dropped out of the top 10 rankings since 2002.

2017 was a good year for Roger because he won Wimbledon and the Australian Open. He added another two ATP World Tour Masters titles.

Federer asked Montreal organizers not to celebrate his birthday because he wants to focus on his match on Wednesday. He wants victory to be his 36th birthday gift. What a legend!!
