CAIRO – 7 August 2017: Twenty-year-old German tennis player Alexander Zverev Jr (Sascha) defeated Japanese tennis player Kei Nishikori to advance to Washington Citi Open Final.

Alexander Zverev toppled number nine Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-4 in the Citi Open semifinals in Washington, D.C. He only needed 64 minutes to prevail over his competitor.

This week Zverev reached the eighth place in the rankings. It is the highest position of his professional career.

It was Zverev’s eighth win over Nishikori after 9 defeats. He is aiming for a fifth title in his career during his eighth final appearance; his fourth this year.

“I played a great match; I played well from the baseline. I returned pretty well, I was holding serve quite comfortably, I’m so happy with how I played,” said Zverev.

On the other hand, number nine ranked Nishikori is among the top 10 in the world since September 2014. He failed to win any titles in the last 30 rounds of tournaments over the past 18 months.

Nishikori’s last title of the Washington tournament came in 2015. February 2016 he won the Memphis title, but since then he has lost 6 final games.
