CAIRO –1 August 2017 : Manchester United officially announced on Monday the signing of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic on a three-year contract.
The Serbian midfielder will wear the red jersey number 31 for the upcoming season of the Premier League.
He joined Manchester in a free transfer contract worth $52.7 million. Matic will be another solid rock on the team’s midfield. He will help head coach Jose Mourinho achieve the PL title.
"Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player,” Mourinho reported to Manchester United’s official website.
The 29-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea for the first time in 2009. Matic transfered from the Slovakian FC VSS Kosice and won with the team the Premier League and the FA Cup of 2010. Chelsea sold him to Benfica which plays in the Portuguese premier league in the summer of 2011. He rose and helped the team win 2 Portuguese league cup titles, 1 Portuguese champion title, and he achieved the individual title of the best footballer of 2013 with Benfica.
Matic worked with Jose Mourinho in Chelsea. Together they won 2015’s edition of the PL. He expressed his happiness through his statements on Manchester United’s website, “I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.”
