CAIRO – 28 July 2017: Zamalek head coach Augusto Inacio split ties with the team on Thursday, when the Zamalek S.C. board of directors terminated his contract.

“I became a fan of Zamalek’s fans! I keep Zamalek fans in my heart! Thanks for all the support!” with these words Portuguese former Zamalek coach Augusto Inacio said goodbye to Egyptian football.

In the past few hours, Zamalek’s board announced a consensual contract termination with Inacio, putting an end to his dramatic dispute with Zamalek’s chairman Mortada Mansour.

In a press conference that was held ahead of Zamalek’s Arab club championship clash with the Lebanon’s Ala’hd, Inacio accused Mansour of lying about his intention to offload Mahmoud Abdel Razeq (Shikabala), adding that Shikabala has been a main player in the team’s starting line-ups and Mansour is the one who actually wanted to do without him.

“I’ve been in the hot water since I’ve been assigned leadership of the team,” Inacio said.

Alongside Shikabala, Inacio said he has been accused of offloading Ayman Hefni and Bassem Moursi, which he has thoroughly denied.

Taking a swipe once again at Zamalek’s boss, Inacio said the problem lies in the fact that everyone around Mansour is afraid of him.

Manosur went off against Inacio, confirming that he will report his “ungrounded lies” to FIFA.

Following the team’s loss to Al-a’hd, Zamalek’s board held Inacio accountable for the team’s recent hiccups and decided to open proceedings on the matter.

Inacio complained that he was forced to resign against his will, causing the Portuguese embassy to dispatch a delegation to follow up on the dispute.

On Thursday, Zamalek's board of directors made the decision to cancel Inacio’s contract.

The contract was terminated after an agreement from both parties that Inacio would be paid half the amount of the penalty clause in the contract, which is equivalent to three months’ salary.

Inacio's contract with Zamalek states that the Portuguese coach gets LE 760,000 ($42,508) monthly salary and thus he will receive a sum of LE 1,140,000 as per the agreement, the value of a month and a half.

Inacio was hired as head coach of Zamalek S.C. in March 2017.
