Egypt's Golf National Team participates in the first African Amateur Golf Championship

CAIRO, February 21, 2024: The Egyptian national men's golf team is participating in the first African Amateur Championship, which is organized by the R&A in cooperation with the African Golf Federation and hosted by South Africa during the period from 21 to 24 February at the Leopard Creek Golf Club.

 

Egypt is represented in the tournament by the trio of our men's national team, Eissa Abu El-Ela, Dean Naeem and Hassan Saeed.

The best 72 players in the African continent, representing 24 countries, all of whom are ranked in the world rankings, will participate in the first edition of the first African Men’s Singles Championship, led by the South African trio, ranked No. 12 in the world amateur rankings, Christian Maas, and Van der Merwe, ranked 178th in the world, Daniel Bennet ranked 280th and the rising talent and African junior champion Jack Buchanan ranked 581. In addition to Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga world number 223, and world number 273 Moroccan Youssef Al Hali.

The star of our national team, Eissa Abu El-Ela, ranked 836th in the world, is one of the most prominent players in the tournament, who is expected to compete for the first African men’s singles title, according to his distinguished results in last year’s tournaments outside Egypt.

 

At the same time, the first African Elite Women's Singles Championship will be held with the participation of 20 players.

Phil Anderton, CEO of development at the R&A, the governing body for the rules of golf in the world that organizes this African event, said that the goal of holding the first African Singles Championship is to develop the level of golf in the African continent, support talent, discover future stars in golf, and provide them with the opportunity to move forward in professional tournaments. Especially after the success of that experience in Asia, the Pacific and Latin America and the emergence of new talents.

Phil Anderton praised the great positive support that the tournament received from South African Johann Robert, so that this historic event comes out in the best possible light, in addition to Rolex, the partner of all the R&A professional and amateur tournaments.
