CAIRO – 21 July 2017: The African Football Confederation (CAF) is studying a return of the Afro-Asian Cup to the forefront after several years of absence.

Ahmed Ahmed, the president of the CAF, said Friday in a press statement on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the CAF held in Rabat, Morocco that it was decided to return this competition to light, pointing out that the matter is being presented to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to study the situation to reach a certain form that contributes in returning the cup again.

The Afro-Asian Cup was played between the African Champions League winner and Asian Champions League winner. The cup started in 1986 and was played with an one leg match with the winner holding the title of the Afro-Asian Cup. Two years later, the rules of the cup were changed to be played with two leg matches. Zamalek S.C. has the most title wins with 2, in 1987 and 1997.
