Al Jazira eyes AFC Champions League

Cairo – 20 July 2017:Emirati club, Al Jazira, signed Emirati striker Ahmed Khalil on a free transfer from their main rivals, Shabab Al Ahli Dubai. It is another move by Al Jazira to sign great players.

Ahmed Khalil, 26 years old, became the first Emirati to win Asian Player of the Year in 2015, and he is a regular starter for the UAE national team.

Earlier, Al Jazira signed Uzbek striker Sardor Rashidov and experienced French midfielder Lassana Diarra, who previously played for Arsenal, Chelsea, Marseille and Real Madrid.

Al Jazira, coached by former Ajax Amesterdam coach Henk ten Cate, added Khalil and Rashidov to their attacking force, which includes Ali Mabkhout, who scored 33 goals last season to be the top goal-scorer, and the experienced Moroccan Mbark Boussoufa, who had a long journey with big European teams like Anderlecht and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Al Jazira won the 2017 Emirati League, but with these signings, they are putting their eyes on Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League title.
