CAIRO – 17 July 2017: Monica Gonzalez, a passionate footballer who used to represent the Mexican National Team, is transforming the lives of many female footballers through her academy Gonzo Soccer.

Gonzo Soccer is a women’s football academy in Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. which aims to provide technical and life skill lessons to help female footballers become better players and people. These young female footballers are faced with a lot of difficulties and Gonzalez believes that she can help the youngsters better navigate their tough life. Gonzalez believes that football could be part of a healing process for women struggling with difficult situations their lives.

Gonzalez has a famous saying, “They say education is a gateway to a better life and I believe soccer is the gateway to a better education.” Gonzalez wants the academy to be the place where these youth find out what they are really good at what can ignite their passions. She believes that a neighborhood that was full of human trafficking can be full of athletes and young talents.

When asked about what they have learned, many of the young children say that it is not only a football academy. They learn about integrity, about being a better person and how to treat others with mutual respect. This holds true to the vision of Gonzalez as football is definitely something the youth learn, but it is incorporated into the many other objectives of the academy.

The founder of Gonzo Soccer, Gonzalez was first featured in the Mexico National team when she was 19-years-old. She recalls that she was reluctant to go when she received the call, but later realized that football was her true passion and became in love with the sport. She concludes her message saying that I want to help these youngsters achieve their dreams.
