Cairo - 16July 2017: Abdel Nader Ali signed a 4-year contract with NBA giants Boston Celtics, becoming the second Egyptian player to play in the NBA.

“Boston and 2016 second-round pick Abdel Nader have agreed in principle on a four-year, $6 million rookie deal,” according to The Vertical journalist Shams Charania

Abdel Nader, 23 years old, is an Egyptian-born American basketball player. He played last year with Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League.

Abdel Nader’s agent, Cervando Tejeda, was in discussions with Boston Celtics in the last few weeks. Abdel Nader was the Development League’s Rookie of the Year, averaging 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

Abdel Nader is the second Egyptian player to play in the NBA, after Alaa Abdel Naby’s spell in the NBA in the 90s. He also played for the Boston Celtics from 1992 to 1994.

There are many similarities between both players; they are both from Alexandria, and they both travelled with their families to the U.S. when they were kids, besides both of them playing for the Boston Celtics.
