CAIRO –14 July 2017: McLaren boss, Eric Boullier, warned the team driver, Fernando Alonso, after Alonso asked the team to improve if they want him to stay.

"I prefer that Alonso stays with us, but under the condition that he believes in our project," Boullier told Nextgen-Auto.com.

Boullier was so upset with Alonso departure news, he continued “A pilot who does not believe in us isn't very useful. I am interested in having two drivers who represent the McLaren Honda project. Whatever happens, next year Fernando will be where he wants, whether going to another place or staying with us."

Asked about the refusal of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel to share the team with Alonso, he said “When you have the number 1 status inside the team you don't want anyone to come and bother you.

All champions want to be measured with the best, but not necessarily within the same team.”

Boullier is McLaren racing director since 2014, he has been working with Alonso since his return to McLaren in 2015.
