CAIRO – 14 July2017: The Dutch football club, Ajax, confirmed that their midfielder, Abdelhak Nouri, has suffered permanent and severe brain damage caused by heart problems, after his collapse on the pitch.

Abdelhak Nouri, 20,suffered from cardiac arrhythmias during a pre-season friendly match against Werder Bremen last Sunday.

The team released an official Tweet that says the following: “Ajax are deeply saddened by the news that Appie Nouri has been diagnosed with serious and permanent brain damage.”

According to The Sun, Nouri did not improve after being put in a coma in intensive care, for there were further complications.

A preliminary brain scan earlier this week showed no cause for concern what so ever, and his heart activity appeared normal. However, Ajax confirmed that after Nouri was taken out of the medically induced coma, more tests were conducted and the worst-case scenario was confirmed.

Ajax has already stated that any and all updates on Abdelhak Nouri's state will be done through their official channels.

In a moving gesture, fans of the sport have been gathering together to pray for Nouri. While the club has started a hashtag in support of him: #StayStrongAppie.
