CAIRO, 4 April 2022: Al-Ahly qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League after defeating Al-Hilal of Sudan in the last round with the goal of Hussein Al-Shahat.
The Reds placed second behind South African Sundowns, who got 16 points in the group.
Al-Ahly will play with one of the first places in the remaining groups.
Morocco's Raja Casablanca topped Group B with 15 points, Tunisia's Esperance Group C with 14 points, and Morocco's Wydad Group D with 15 points.
Al-Ahly had previously faced Tunisia's Esperance in the quarter-finals of the previous edition and won it 4-1 in the two group matches.
Al-Ahly played against Wydad in the semi-finals of the 2020 edition and won it 5-1 on aggregate.
Al-Ahly faced Morocco's Raja in the last African Super Cup and won it 6-5 on penalties, after a tie in the hardest time, with one goal for each team.
Al-Ahly is defending their title for the third year in a row, after winning the championship in 2020 at the expense of Zamalek and in 2021 against Kaizer Chiefs.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League and the Confederation of African Football will be held next Tuesday at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football.
