CAIRO – 10 July 2017: Dani Alves took to social media to refute claims made against him by Barcelona FC President Josep Maria Bartomeu on Monday.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo on July 7, Josep Maria Bartomeu talked about Dani Alves’ last days in Barcelona.

Citing from Squawka’s website Bartomeu said, “In January we received a message from him. We met and talked. But he will not return. Dani is a nice guy and we all like him and he has no problem with the club. He and I know very well what his problem is, which is very personal and unrelated to the sport.”

Bartomeu added saying, “We understand. It’s something that his agent, he and I know. Let him say whatever he wants. I insist that it is a personal matter,” according to Squawka.

The Brazilian star then responded to the claims made by Bartomeu on his Twitter account using the single world “mentira,” which translates to lie.

This may not come as a surprise to some as Alves has previously spoke about feeling disrespected during his three year stint at Barcelona.

In an ABC interview in February Alves stated, “During my last three seasons [at Barcelona] they always used to say Alves is leaving, but the directors never said anything to me. They were extremely false and ungrateful. They did not respect me.”

The 34 year-old right back added, “Those who run Barcelona today have no idea how to treat their players.”

Alves is still a free agent and is linked with signing with Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.
