CAIRO – 9 July 2017: Zamalek SC got knocked out of the CAF Champions League after failing to win against Al Ahli Tripoli at Borg Al Arab Stadium on July 9.

Zamalek had a 2-2 draw with Al Ahli Tripoli in a very heated match in the CAF Champions League group stages.

Zamalek started the first half looking for a quick goal to get the upper hand in the match. They had several chances, which translated to a goal scored by Bassem Morsy at minute 13 after receiving an excellent cross by Zamalek's left back Mohamed Nassef. Zamalek wanted to score their second goal in the match but were faced by a strong goalkeeper. Al Ahli Tripoli then started attacking, looking for an equalizer.

The 45th minute of the match saw Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh receiving his second yellow card in the game after tackling Al Ahli Tripoli's attacking player, giving a penalty to Al Ahli Tripoli. The penalty was then scored by Mohamed El Ghanodi, making the score 1-1.

The second half started with Zamalek looking to score the second goal to qualify to the next round; however, they were faced by a strong defense from Al Ahli Tripoli. It was not until the 69th minute that Vianney Mabide scored Al Ahli Triploi’s second goal from a great counter attack.

Zamalek’s Nigerian midfielder Maarouf Youssef brought Zamalek back to the game after scoring the equalizer on minute 75. Zamalek and Al Ahli Tripoli then exchanged several chances, but the score remained unchanged, ending the match 2-2.

With this result, USM Alger qualified for the quarter finals in first place, with Al Ahli Tripoli in second place.
