CAIRO-1 October 2021: Wael Gomaa, Egypt national team director, reflected on the team’s 2-0 friendly win over Liberia, saying it is a good start for the team under the new manager, Carlos Queiroz.

“It is a good start. We had two training sessions and then we played a friendly game so it is a good start. We did not reach the best performance yet but we are happy with the performance and the result.” Gomaa said after the game.

In Queiroz’s first game in charge of the Egyptian national team, the Pharaohs defeated Liberia 2-0 thanks to two goals from Mohamed Sherif.

Gomaa added “We have a short time to prepare the team. We are trying to adapt with the team. Queiroz is an experienced coach and he knows how to get the best out of the team.”

The Portuguese coach is set to announce the team’s final list for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Egypt will face Libya at home on 8 October and the two teams will meet again in Benghazi on 11 October.

Egypt comes second in group F of the African World Cup qualifiers with four points, two points behind the group leaders, Libya.
