Egypt Squad for World Cup Qualifiers Unveiled

CAIRO-27 August 2021: Hossam El Badry, Egypt national team head coach, announced the team's squad for the opening games of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
 
Egypt will start the journey at home against Angola before facing Gabon in Libreville. 
 
Al Ahly's in-form right back, Akram Tawfik, and Zamalek's veteran left back, Mohamed Abdelshafy were named in the squad after their amazing performance in the last weeks of the Egyptian Premier League. 
 
Also, El Badry named Premier League duo Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Mohamed Elneny of Arsenal despite the Premier League clubs' decision to not release their players to participate in matches in UK's red list countries. 
 
The duo will be ready for the game against Gabon but their participation in the opening game of the qualifiers against Angola is still in doubt. 
 
Egypt plays in Group F alongside Gabon, Angola and Libya.
