CAIRO – 7 July 2017: Mostafa Fathi and Essam el-Hadary joined Saudi Arabia’s team, Al-Taawoun, to add a new chapter in the Egyptian stories with Saudi teams.

Many Egyptian players played for Saudi teams and they had great performances in Saudi pitches. We picked the best five Egyptian players in Saudi Arabia.

5 – Ahmed Ali

Ahmed Ali, Egyptian striker, joined Al-Hilal in 2011 on a 6 month loan when he was a regular starter at Ismaily and the Egyptian National Team.

Ali described his period with Al-Hilal as the best in his football career, despite being criticized by Al-Hilal fans after the club finished the season with only one title.

Ali returned to Egypt with great memories from his spell with Al-Hilal.


4- Mohamed Barakat

Mohamed Barakat joined Saudi team Al-Ahli after winning the Egyptian League title with Ismaily. He played one year with Al-Ahli, where he reached all the local competitions’ finals, but they lost all of them.

Brakat scored Al-Ahli only one goal against Club Africain from Tunisia to win the Arab Clubs Competition in 2002.

Al-Ahli fans still remember Mohamed Barakat as one of the best foreigners in the club’s history.


3- Ashraf Kasem

Ashraf Kasem, Egyptian defender, joined Al-Hilal on a one year loan from Zamalek in 1993. He played many important matches and scored many goals against big teams.

Kasem remembers his time with Al-Hilal with pride and happiness, and he always wished that his time there would have been longer than a year.


2- Emad Moteab

Emad Moteab joined Al-Ittihad in 2008 from Al-Ahly on a one year loan, scoring 11 goals with the team, including a late goal against Al-Ahli in Jeddah.

Motaeb won the Saudi Arabian League with Al-Ittihad.

1- Mohamed Abdel Shafi

Abdel Shafi had the best Egyptian journey in Saudi Arabia. He joined Al-Ahli in 2014 and he earned a regular place in Al-Ahli’s starting line up till now.

Abdel Shafi won the Saudi League, King Cup and Saudi Super Cup in 2016, and he also won the Crown Prince Cup in 2015.
