CAIRO, 19 April 2021: Hossam El-Badry, Egypt's coach, decided to award the captaincy to Mohamed Salah.

The coaching staff explained that the decision came after informing the players who preceded Salah in terms of seniority and who supported this step.

El-Badry believes that the next stage needs stability in some matters, including the captaincy badge.

The technical staff seeks to arrange matters in the coming period to achieve the dream of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Salah is preceded by a number of players, including Ahmed Hegazy, Amr Al-Soulia and Mohamed Al-Nini.

Egypt will compete in the World Cup qualifiers starting next June and the second phase ends in October.

The Egyptian national team is located in Group F, next to the national teams of Gabon, Angola and Libya.

Salah had previously worn the captaincy in a friendly match against Guinea while preparing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah had worn the badge for the first time in an official match against the Comoros Islands, after Mohammed Al-Nani asked to give it to his teammate.

Mohamed Salah began his career with the Egyptian national team in 2011.

Salah scored a double for Egypt during the Comoros match, reaching the 45th goal in the national jersey.
