Egyptian youth team snatch Gold in Fencing World championship

CAIRO, 6 April 2021: The Egyptian youth team for Fencing has achieved a historic achievement after crowning the gold in the teams competition in the World Youth Championship, which is hosted by Egypt from 3 to 11 April 2021, which is the first medal in the history of Egypt in the teams competitions and the first gold for Egypt in the World Youth Championships.

The national youth team was represented in the Fencing competitions by Mazen Al-Arabi, Iyad Maarouf, Adham Moataz, and Ziad Nofal.

The team is led by the manager Maher Hamza, coaches Sharif Al-Bakri, Khaled Sharif, Mahmoud Gondia, and team supervisor Ahmed Nabil.

The youth team, ranked No. 5 in the world, defeated Russia, ranked No. 3, in the final, with a score of 45-38, to crown the Pharaohs with the gold medal, Russia the silver medal, and France the bronze medal.

The Egyptian national team qualified for the final after beating the US ranked No. 1 in the world and the world champion in a historic achievement in the semi-final with a score of 45-31.

While Egypt qualified for the semi-finals after beating Poland in the quarter-finals with a score of 45-37, while the Pharaohs' Youth qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Hong Kong in the round of 16 with a score of 45-32.

On Monday, the individual events of the individual sword weapon competitions ended, where American Magda Scarbonikewicz won the gold medal, and Russian Yulia Salabay won the silver medal, and Azerbaijani Zarifa Hasiyunova and American Zoe Kim won the bronze medal.
