CAIRO-24 March 2021: Real Madrid historic captain Fernando Hierro hopes that Real Madrid can reach an agreement to renew the contract of their current captain Sergio Ramos.

With 100 days left of the player’s contract, the club and the player did not reach an agreement over the captain’s future.

"I would like Sergio Ramos to continue and retire at Real Madrid. But not because of the time he has been there, but because of his performances. He is showing that he is still the best in the world. When there is will, people understand each other.” Hierro said according to Marca.

Ramos was the captain of Los Blancos when they lifted the last three UEFA Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Ramos was also the main man behind the club’s 10th Champions League title when he scored a late equalizer for his team against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in 2014. This goal is considered one of the most precious goals in the club’s history.

Hierro added “"There are times when the economic situation is not the most important thing and you have to assess where you want to be."
