CAIRO - 16 June 2017: Greece, Georgia, Egypt and Bulgaria remain “top holiday destinations” for Armenians in 2017, Armenpress reported Wednesday, citing tour operators and the Armenian tourism committee.

“Armenians prefer countries offering sea leisure,” the report quoted Mekhak Apresyan, the committee’s first deputy chairman, as saying. He added that Georgia is associated with “proximity and affordability,” and that Armenians also like the Black and Mediterranean seas and “exotic” destinations.

He added that while a number of Armenians visit Egypt, the numbers have decreased due to the political situation.

Globus Tour told Armenpress that three years ago Egypt was the top destination in terms of the number of tourists; this year, however, it is third, after Greece and Cyprus.

Marine Avetisyan, director of travel agency Shelby Tour, told Armenpress that about 30 to 50 packages are sold weekly to Egypt, whereas last year the number was only five to six packages per week.
