CAIRO - 10 June 2017: The parking garage under Cairo International Airport’s newly-opened Terminal 2 will soon be open, holding company head Mohamed Saeed Mahrous told the Middle East News Agency on Saturday.

The garage will open once security and inspection equipment have arrived from Germany, he added. The equipment is expected to arrive within the next three months, as the contract of 20 million euro has already been signed.

In the meantime, a temporary parking lot will be opened near Terminal 2 in the next few days and will accommodate 80 cards as a short-term solution, Mahrous told MENA.

A parking garage was opened next to the Meridian hotel, which is located just 60 meters from the entrance of the airport, and can accommodate up to a thousand cars. Buses are available to transport passengers and luggage to all airport terminals, he added. The journey from the garage to Terminal 2 takes approximately 9 minutes, he said, and is similar to the system used in international airports such as John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City and Orly Airport in France.

Airport employees will be required to use the new garage, which will accommodate 3,400 cars, and to use the automatic train that reaches all buildings, in order to provide enough space for passengers and to help solve the problem of over-crowdedness, especially in the vicinity of Terminal 2.
