CAIRO – 7 January 2018: Pope Francis announced that Egypt is listed on the Catholic Church’s pilgrimage program for 2018 as Roman Catholic pilgrims will have the chance to follow the trail of the Holy Family through Egypt, according to the Italian newspaper Avveniro on Friday.

The visits will be organized by the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi institution in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, Avveniro added.

Egypt is listed on two tourism programs selected by the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi institution due to its historical and touristic importance. The first program includes visiting historical places in Cairo and Aswan, while the second is dedicated to tracing the Holy Family’s stops through Egypt.

Yahya Rashed, minister of tourism, has received a positive report from the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi institution delegation after their visit to the Holy Family’s resting places in Egypt.

Rashed expressed his optimism regarding the international and Italian media coverage for the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi delegation’s visit to Egypt. He also explained that this coverage contributes to marketing and promoting Egypt as a tourist destination.
