CAIRO - 25 December 2017: Mohamed Othman, adviser to the tourism minister for Upper Egypt, said on Monday the year of 2017 is the best for Egypt tourism in terms of the number of tourists coming to the two Egyptian governorates of Luxor and Aswan.

Despite the hardships crippling the tourism sector in Egypt, tourist numbers in 2017 came close to levels seen before its 2011 revolution, he added.

Hotel accommodation rates in Luxor and Aswan during Christmas and New Year vacations are high, he said, adding that part of this increase is attributed to the growing number of cultural tourism fans, especially those coming from Scandinavian and southeastern Asia countries.

Arrivals from Japan and China to Luxor and Aswan have increased by 200 percent, he said.

Othman called for launching more campaigns in countries that care about such kind of tourism like Latin American countries.
