CAIRO – 24 October 2017: Miss Universe 2016, Iris Mittenaere, arrived in Cairo on October 23 for a week-long trip across the country.

The 24-year-old French beauty queen has been looking forward to visiting the country for a long time. Mittenaere came to Egypt to encourage tourism and to offer practical educational programs for children in Luxor such as pottery apprenticeships.

Mittenaere is currently a student at Lille 2 University of Health and Law, where she is studying dentistry with the intention of becoming a dental surgeon. Her mother was very persistent in encouraging her daughter to complete her education.

Through her degree, Mittenaere aims to shed light on the health problems caused by dental care negligence, among which are respiratory infections and cardiovascular diseases.

Miss Universe 2016 is keen on helping misfortunate children, and dedicating her time to visiting children at orphanages.

Mittenaere is now working with Smile Train, an international organization that provides surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates in underdeveloped countries.

Alongside her charity work, Mittenaere loves traveling and spends most of her time outdoors doing extreme sports like bungee jumping and skydiving.

Last summer, Miss Universe 2016 participated in Tour de France and cycled across France. She also participated in Ninja Warrior France where she had to dodge obstacles to reach the buzzer.

Mittenaere is also a very talented chef with French cuisine being her specialty. In her free time, she also jams to Beyonce’s music and watches her favorite film "Life is Beautiful."
