CAIRO - 12 October 2017: To celebrate the International Day of the Girl, UNICEF collaborated with R&B and pop artist Beyoncé to create a video empowering young girls around the world.

The global organization, UNICEF, created a short film using Beyoncé's song "Freedom" to raise awareness about the different struggles and challenges girls face, calling for #FreedomForGirls.

The short film was partnered with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is a follow up for the #WhatIReallyReallyWant short film that was released in 2016’s Day of the Girl that called for women’s solidarity.

According to CNN, a girl dies as a result of violence every five minutes; one in every four girls is forced into child marriage, and 63 million girls are victims of female genital mutilation (FGM).

The short films compliment the Global Goals Agreement that was set by world leaders in 2016. The agreement promises to achieve gender equality by the year 2030.
