CAIRO– 11 October 2017: The hashtag #Dayofthegirls is trending on Twitter worldwide. It is a day where we dream of a world provides all girls equal opportunities to have a healthy, happy and respected life. A day where all girls can go to schools safely, get a good health care, live their childhood and have plans to lead their communities. It is a day where we aim to find an end for early marriage, violence, trafficking and poverty.

The social media platforms offered people a platform to express themselves, with girls sharing their stories of success, hope and struggle. Institutions and organizations who advocate for the rights of girls and freedom are raising awareness about the needs of every girl for a safe environment to grow up, learn, play, express herself and choose her path in life.

Some international figures also reacted to the day. Famed singer Beyonce released a song called ‘Freedom,’ highlighting girls from different parts of the world and their problems.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted “Girls in Canada & around the world are building a better future for all of us on #DayoftheGirl, we celebrate them.”

Hillary Clinton, former U.S. presidential candidate, tweeted "To all the little girls watching...never doubt that you are valuable and powerful & deserving of every chance & opportunity in the world."
