Actress Sofia Villani Scicolone, known as Sophia Loren, is an Italian film star. Loren was born on September 20, 1934. At the age of 14, she was one of the finalists in a beauty pageant, and the enrolled in acting classes in Italy. In 1951, she began to be noticed in Italy because of her modeling, landing her first role in the same year as an extra in the film “Quo Vadis” (Where Are You Going?).

In 1953, she starred in her first film, “Aida”. However, her breakthrough role came in the film “The Gold in Naples” (1954), directed by Vittorio De Sica.

Her most acclaimed film is “Two Women.” She has acted in at least 46 films.


Fun Facts:

● In 1962, she won her first Academy Award as Best Actress for her performance in “Two Women”. This was the first time an artist wins an Oscar for a performance in foreign language.
