Ilhan Omar on the cover of Time Magazine

CAIRO – 11 September 2017: For the first time ever a veiled Muslim woman, is on the cover of Time magazine. Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American legislator, graces the cover of the September 18 issue.

Omar won the general election to become the first Somali American legislator in the United States in November 2016. On January 3, 2017, she officially started her term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

About Ilhan Omar: Omar was born in 1982 in Somalia. Omar started her career as professional community nutrition educator at the University of Minnesota.
