CAIRO – 25 August 2017: The seaport city of Suez, is understandably most known for the Suez Canal, but a photography initiative is revealing more to the city than the famous waterway.

In an attempt to reveal the beauty of every Egyptian city parallel to the mainstream images of the country, Alexandria-based Adasa Photography Club launched Egypt Again project in 2016 to document landmarks and the everyday life across the lenses of its talented photographers. Their pictures of Suez show an old city, an intriguing fish market of a port city and a heavenly sunset.

Suez city, on the north coast of the Red Sea’s Gulf of Suez, overlooks the Suez Canal. It is one of the most important international navigation waterways linking the Mediterranean and the Red Sea in the shortest link between the east and the west.

A “new Suez Canal” was inaugurated in 2015, allowing ships to cross the canal in both directions at the same time, rather than berthing the ship until another one crosses in the opposite direction. The Suez Canal Axis project will be completed in 2030, and it is expected to bring major investments into the city.

“Egypt witnessed an artistic and cultural revolution in the street that needs to be documented. With different expressions of freedom, as well as destruction, and of our cultural heritage, Egypt has undergone big changes in all aspects of life, and this needs to be documented,” said Alaa El-Basha on the Egypt Again Facebook page.
