CAIRO – 24 August 2017: People are awesome. They are amazing, and the thought of what each stranger knows and can share with you can be quite astonishing. However, making new friends can be a bit tricky or some might say “scary,” so here are five known practical tips on how to make new friends.

#SmileyFace:Smile a lot! It is much more welcoming than a still face, and it gives an impression that you are probably a positive person, and a good first impression is exactly what people need to make friends.

Just ask: Get to know people by asking engaging, open-ended questions, such as what do you love to do? And why do you love it? People like talking about what they think is special. Always remember: an eight-year-old might get annoying because they ask too many questions, so keep it cool.

Do not be fake: Be yourself. If you do not like something, you do not necessarily need to accept it just to appeal to people or just to fit in, because if you do so, you might have a lot of friends — just not the right ones for you.

Do not judge either: If you do not like something specific about a person, you do not need to attack them or be judgmental. If you do not like it, just let it go. Every person has a different personality, and we are not supposed to like everyone or be liked by everyone anyway.

Put yourself out there: This might sound like the craziest part, but the secret is not to think about it much. You mean well, and you are just looking to make friends. So whenever you are in a party or with friends of friends, just stay friendly and engage in small talk. You will be surprised with how easy it is and that people are actually usually friendly.

So … good luck, and say hello to your new friends for us!
